Greetings STM Family! My name is Mandy Pope, and I am the new school counselor at The High School of St. Thomas More. I am very excited that God placed my path here at STM to continue my journey with so many of my former students and families and has given me the opportunity to build new relationships with more students and families. My motto, “what is best for the student?” will be my daily goal. I cannot wait to put into practice all of my experiences to help students with their academic, college, career, and social/emotional needs!
I grew up in Mahomet, IL and attended Parkland and the University of Illinois for my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with a minor in theatre. After graduating, I worked with young children and was drawn to the ones that needed the most emotional help. Thus, I went back to school and received my Masters of Clinical Counseling from Eastern Illinois University. I was an out-patient counselor at Douglas County Mental Health for many years. I even did mental health evaluations for the new police hires for the sheriff’s department! Even though I loved being a Counselor, I wanted to return to teaching. I then taught small children until I found one of my loves, Catholic Education! I was a Catholic educator for seven years at Holy Cross and St. Matthew in Champaign. Before hanging up my teaching chalk, I received my Masters in Educational Leadership and my Teacher Leader and Principal Endorsements from Eastern Illinois University. Last year, I was home with our toddler Gus and our two other children while our son received food allergy treatment in St. Louis. I am thankful God has purposefully placed me back in Catholic Education! I’m energized to help each student find their God-directed path during high school and beyond!
