The John S. May✝ Memorial Scholarship was established in December of 2021. John passed away on November 27th, 2021 and his surviving family members were compelled by his legacy and the Holy Spirit to establish the Scholarship in his honor and memory. John’s commitment to Catholic Education and Formation was most evident in his unyielding efforts to start a Catholic high school in Champaign/Urbana. In the early 1990’s, John rallied community, business, and Diocesan Leaders and initiated a feasibility study, leading to the Diocese of Peoria’s commitment to the development of the school. John’s efforts and passion were chronicled by those who worked side by side with him in the process.
The goal of this Scholarship Fund is to continue John’s passion by financially assisting families and students focused on a Catholic Education and enhancing their Catholic Formation at The High School of Saint Thomas More. Candidates are expected to exhibit high levels of commitment to: Catholic Formation, Catholic Education, personal character, and moral values. This scholarship shall be for a new or existing student at The High School of Saint Thomas More. It will be awarded in the form of one (1) $500 scholarship.
