STM Football Announcement

Today we announce that The High School of Saint Thomas More is joining the Illinois 8 Man Football Association for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. This decision was made after much consideration, conversation, and most importantly-prayer.

STM is experiencing the same thing that many schools across the state, and the country, are experiencing: a decrease in football participation. Our school only had 18 players available their final game, several of which were graduating seniors. While we are optimistic about our incoming class, the potential to find ourselves without enough players to field a team or to lose players to injuries during the season resulting in forfeits was a very real factor in this decision. This decision took a lot of conversation but in the end the safety of our players, the ability to field a team, and the competitive experience of our student-athletes were the deciding factors. We are certain there are plenty of strong feelings about this decision and we are happy to answer any questions we can.

Finally, we want to assure you that The High School of Saint Thomas More is committed to building and sustaining a strong football program. As our school grows and participation numbers increase, we will certainly seek to return to 11 man football when our school is able to. Thank you for your understanding in our desire to do what is best for the safety of our students.

Peace,

Sr. M. Bridget, Principal

Mr. Thomas Welte, Athletic Director

Mr. Nathan Watson, Head Football Coach
