Driver’s Education

1/4 Credit – One Semester

Prerequisite:  See description below.

Grades 9 or 10

This class will teach all of the driving skills and concepts required by the state, including teaching young drivers the safe and defensive techniques needed in today’s hazardous driving conditions.  Each student is required to log 40 clock hours in the classroom and 6 clock hours of driving with the instructor and 6 clock hours observing.  The students will receive their permit after about one week of class.  This slip allows the student to drive with their parents.  There is a 9 month waiting period from the time they receive their permit until they are allowed to receive their license. During this time, the student must drive 50 clock hours with their parents.  Students will be dropped from this class on their fourth absence.  Students may not miss any part of the driving sequence.  Driving order is based on the student’s birth date; oldest students will drive first. A letter grade will be given for the classroom portion; driver’s behind the wheel portion is pass/fail.  Students must have received a passing grade in at least eight courses over the past two semesters.
