REGULATIONS FOR LENT:
1. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year. Every Christian is strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial, attentiveness to prayer, and especially to works of charity and mercy.
2. The following are the laws of fast and abstinence (to disregard these laws is a serious matter):
a. Every Catholic 14 years of age and older, MUST ABSTAIN FROM MEAT on both Ash Wednesday and every Friday of Lent.
b. Every Catholoic 18 years of age and under 59 years of age MUST FAST ON ASH WEDNESDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY. This means that on these 2 days, only 1 full meal is allowed. 2 other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these 2 days. When one’s health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. As you decide which things to give up and which practices to adopt for Lent, consider attending Mass once or twice a week at STM. For Lent, we will have a new schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays Mass will be offered at 3:10pm (right after school). Wednesdays and Fridays, Mass will remain at the usual time: 7:15am. If you’d like to attend Mass after school, but are involved in an after school activity, just let your Coach or Club Sponsor know in advance. You may even attend Mass dressed and ready to go for practice.
As in past years, STM will be raising money for Pendo Blasio, our sponsor child at our sister school in Tanzania during the season of Lent. In order to do this, we need everyone to help out. We suggest that as part of your Lenten devotions, you try to focus on one thing you gave up for Lent. Then whenever you are tempted to give in to that small luxury, remember that Pendo is also going without that luxury. With every temptation, commit yourself to putting in a penny, a nickel, a dime - whatever - into the large plastic jug designated for your class and sitting outside the chapel. You’ll be surprised at how quickly this small change will add up. As an added incentive, the class which collects the most money per student will receive a jeans day. In addition, the faculty and staff at STM will make a similar matching donation. HERE ARE THE LATEST RESULTS IN OUR CAMPAIGN: 1ST PLACE - JUNIORS WITH $164.25, 2ND PLACE - SOPHOMORES WITH $118.65, 3RD PLACE - FRESHMEN WITH $63.50 AND LAST PLACE - SENIORS WITH $49.72!
Enjoy a great Art Exhibit and support your fellow Sabers by visiting the Indigo Gallery in downtown Champaign which is hosting “The Eric Show”. Dayea Kim and Justin Telthorst won 3rd place and Honorable Mention respectively. The work of several other STM students who participated is displayed.
TODAY Subito will gather in Room 108 at 3:15pm. Any student interested in growing in their faith and developing their life of prayer is welcome to attend. We will discuss plans for our first field trip. Our encounter will conclude by 4:00pm.
Attention Juniors: You have just 7 more days to win 2 FREE TICKETS TO THE PROM for selling the most Butterbraid orders over $400. Remember, your packets are due by 8:00am, Thursday, March 18th to Mrs. Tucker. KEEP SELLING.
