Today’s News

For 03/10/2010:

We will be on Bell Schedule #1 today.

ALL STUDENTS: Any student parking in teacher parking, reserved areas or other areas prohibited to students will receive an office detention.

ALL STUDENTS: Any student caught running to lunch will be placed at the back of the lunch line.

ALL STUDENTS: Remember you are NOT to be at your lockers until the first warning bell.

TODAY’S HOT LUNCH: Today’s lunch will be zesty chicken parmesan, garlic bread and applesauce (please note: our monthly Lunch Menu is available from the web site menu under “About STM | Lunch Menu")

Do you have old shoes that you no longer wear? Help the InterAct Club by donating “GENTLY WORN*” shoes to the Soles for Souls service project. Put any “GENTLY WORN*” shoes in the box outside the main office.  *"GENTLY WORN” means soles intact, no holes, clean, and shoe laces not missing or broken.

All Students: Are you missing any books?  We have an overabundance of lost books at the rack outside the main office.  Check there first for your missing books, before you have to pay for them!

REGULATIONS FOR LENT:
1.  Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year.  Every Christian is strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial, attentiveness to prayer, and especially to works of charity and mercy.
2.  The following are the laws of fast and abstinence (to disregard these laws is a serious matter):
a.  Every Catholic 14 years of age and older, MUST ABSTAIN FROM MEAT on both Ash Wednesday and every Friday of Lent.
b.  Every Catholoic 18 years of age and under 59 years of age MUST FAST ON ASH WEDNESDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY. This means that on these 2 days, only 1 full meal is allowed.  2 other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal.  Eating between meals is not permitted on these 2 days.  When one’s health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.

As you decide which things to give up and which practices to adopt for Lent, consider attending Mass once or twice a week at STM.  For Lent, we will have a new schedule:  Tuesdays and Thursdays Mass will be offered at 3:10pm (right after school).  Wednesdays and Fridays, Mass will remain at the usual time:  7:15am. If you’d like to attend Mass after school, but are involved in an after school activity, just let your Coach or Club Sponsor know in advance.  You may even attend Mass dressed and ready to go for practice.

As in past years, STM will be raising money for Pendo Blasio, our sponsor child at our sister school in Tanzania during the season of Lent.  In order to do this, we need everyone to help out.  We suggest that as part of your Lenten devotions, you try to focus on one thing you gave up for Lent.  Then whenever you are tempted to give in to that small luxury, remember that Pendo is also going without that luxury.  With every temptation, commit yourself to putting in a penny, a nickel, a dime - whatever - into the large plastic jug designated for your class and sitting outside the chapel.  You’ll be surprised at how quickly this small change will add up.  As an added incentive, the class which collects the most money per student will receive a jeans day.  In addition, the faculty and staff at STM will make a similar matching donation.  HERE ARE THE LATEST RESULTS IN OUR CAMPAIGN:  1ST PLACE - JUNIORS WITH $164.25, 2ND PLACE - SOPHOMORES WITH $118.65, 3RD PLACE - FRESHMEN WITH $63.50 AND LAST PLACE - SENIORS WITH $49.72!

Anyone interested in service hours, please see Mr. DeWitt.  Mrs. Oliveira also has service hour opportunities for anyone interested!

Attention JV Boys Basketball Players: There will be a meeting in Coach Bosch’s room TODAY after school this week.  You will need to have your uniforms cleaned and ready to turn in at this meeting.

Did you sign-up and pay to attend Globalfest at Normal West?  If so, you need to turn in your permission slip and your completed medical form to Mrs. Stewart by THIS MORNING.  Mrs. Stewart will then provide you with an information sheet to tell you everything you need to know on Wednesday.  A meeting will be held on TOMORROW at 7:20am in Room 203 for all attending.

All students who ordered Math Team T-shirts: Your order is in.  Please pick them up from Mr. Sands and be sure to pay for them.  The price is $10 for anyone who got financial aid from Mr. Sands to buy the T-shirts.  Please don’t forget to pay him back.  All Matheletes who participated in 2010 ICTM Regional Competition are invited to the Grand Pizza Party TOMORROW after school in Mr. Sand’s room.  Come and grab your pizza.

InterAct Members: Our next meeting is this FRIDAY, March 12th at 7:25am in the Library.  We will be having guest to discuss the upcoming Austin Cloyd Day of Service to be sure to attend.

Sabers for Life will be having a baby shower for Crisis Nursery next week.  We will be collecting baby items, gift cards and cash donations.  See the posters and signs in the hall to find our what goods they need.
