- 6th Annual Madrigal Dinner

The 2011 STM Madrigal dinner is December 2nd and 3rd. Tickets may be ordered by completing the attached form and returning it to the STM business office. Tickets are $25 for seating at the nobility table and $35 at the King’s table. STM faculty, staff or student discount is for seating at the nobility tables only at $20. Senior Caitlin Caruso-Dobbs has been selected as a 2011 ACE Award Winner and will be honored on Tuesday, October 4th, 5:30pm at The Canopy Club located at 708 S. Goodwin Avenue in Urbana. The 7th Annual ACE Awards sponsored by The Canopy Club and The News-Gazette honors the efforts of local individuals, businesses, artists, teachers, arts organizations, volunteers, government and community leaders who enrich the culture of Champaign County through their hard work and creative energy.

The Art Department needs boxes, bottles, paper towel rolls, etc. that could be used for an architecture project that Art I is doing. Please collect recyclable materials and bring them to the art room by Monday, April 18th. Thanks!

Pirates of Penzance DVDs are available for purchase from Robb Warren. The cost is $25.00. This year the senior recognition at the end of the show has been included. Checks and the attached form can be sent to the school office. Checks are to be made out to STM.

In an effort to try to help those who are experiencing the consequences of our difficult economy, The Studio Art Club and the Art Department at the High School of St. Thomas More is sponsoring an Empty Bowls Supper. The art students at STM use their creative gifts each year to do their part to help feed those in need by sponsoring their own Empty Bowls Supper. They have consistently raised between $1100 and $1300 dollars each year. This year the money will stay in our immediate community and be donated to Salt and Light Ministries in Champaign.

- 2010 Area High School Art Exhibition

Join our art students who will be participating in the 2010 Area High School Art Exhibition at the Link Gallery at the University of Illinois Art and Design building. Ten students from STM will join other area art students in exhibiting their work beginning Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 through Friday, Jan. 7, 2011. On Friday Oct. 29th STM students showcased their individual talents on stage for the 2010 Fall Follies. This year’s theme was STM’s Got Talent. The audience was entertained by 24 different acts, which included singers, dancers, piano players, guitar players, SNL sketches, original compositions, the STM Improvables, and much more. STM Art students swept the awards last night at the Congressional Art Competition. The first place winner of tickets to DC and having her work hung in the Capitol building went to Dayea Kim! Second place went to Gina Hinders, whose work will be hung in Congressman Johnson’s office, and third place went to Katie DeBrock

- The Eric Show Artwork Awards

On March 20th two STM art students received awards at The Eric Show, a local art show honoring a high school art student who was killed by a drunk driver. Artwork by Ashley Nussel, Clara Holt, Dayea Kim, Gina Hinders, Justing Telthorst, Katie DeBrock, Megan Oliviera, Ryan Schwartz, Trevor Schmutz and Dom Muscatella was exhibited at the Indigo Gallery in downtown Champaign from March 9 to the 20th. A reception for the students was given at the gallery on Sunday the 20th. Justin Telthorst received an Honorable Mention and $25 cash and Dayea Kim won Third Place and a $75 cash award. Additionally, Dayea was even commissioned to make a drawing by the owner of the gallery! The show allowed the students to exhibit their work in a professional setting and was a great success. Congratulations to all the students!

Congratulations to Dayea Kim and Samantha Bonadies who won first and second place respectively for their artwork entered into the 2010 Insect Fear Film Festival Insect Art Contest. Both girls entered their scary insect drawings to this contest sponsored by the Entomology Department at U of I. The awards ceremony was held on Saturday, Feb 27 at 6pm at Foellinger Auditorium at the U of I.

Please join us on Friday, February 12th for Saint Thomas More 4th Annual Battle of the Bands! Student bands compete for prizes and a local studio recording session. All students who are going to be servers at the Madrigal dinner, there will be a mandatory training session on either Tuesday, December 1st or Wednesday, December 2nd after school from 3:30-4:30pm and a mandatory dress rehearsal Thursday Dec 4th from 5-10pm.
