Jessica Elliott Honored by Illinois Secretary of State

Senior Jessica Elliott was honored on September 14th by the Secretary of State’s office during the 2011 Constitution Day Ceremony at Daley Plaza in Chicago. Her recent entry in the statewide “Reflections on a Veteran” essay program was selected to receive the top award in the high school-age category. The ceremony included a presentation of the Colors, the singing of the National Anthem, the award presentation at which time Jessica read her essay, a salute to the Medal of Honor Society, and an official U.S. Naturalization Ceremony in which more than 30 individuals from all over the world became U.S. citizens.

Jessica is pictured with Secretary of State Jesse White and Iwo Jima Marine veteran Jim Kelly from Urbana, who was the subject of her essay. Jessica’s essay is slated to be published in The News-Gazette in conjunction with Veterans Day. Congratulations, Jessica!
