Wrestling team led by Young, Tate, Rice and Bequette

The Saber wrestling team went one and one Wednesday night, defeating Clinton 39-36 and falling to state rated ???AA??? Lincoln 48-30.  The team wrestled its best matches of the year with some impressive wins.  CJ Young went 2-0 with two hard fought victories including a 5-3 victory against Clinton in his best all around effort of the year.  Matt Tate and Lucas Rice continued solid senior seasons by each going 2-0.  Tate had his biggest win of the year versus Lincoln with a 8-6 hard fought decision.  Luc Bequette, a freshman wrestling varsity at 220 lbs., went 2-0 with two pins.  His first pin against Clinton helped secure a tough dual team victory for the Sabers.  Jacob Shurter, Adam Cochrane, Colin Kelley, John Strauser and Mic Palazzolo all won matches for the Sabers on the best night of the year for the team.

On the year, Lucas Rice continues to be state rated with a 24-3 record.  Luc Bequette has climbed to a 14-10 record.  Matt Tate has wrestled through a tough injury to 10-7.  CJ Young has come on strong winning seven of his last ten to climb to 12-12 on the year.

Wrestling ends regular season at its best…

The wrestling team defeated Paxton Buckley Loda 44-24 and Schlarman 42-6 on a memorable senior night at STM.  The team was led by its senior class of CJ Young, Matt Tate, Lucas Rice,Thomas Hansen and Mic Palazzolo.  CJ Young had an exceptional night winning all his matches including a tough 5-3 decision against one of Paxton???s best wrestlers.  Matt Tate went 2-0 with an impressive pin against PBL in 20 seconds.  Lucas Rice also went 2-0 with two pins.  Lucas finished the regular season with a 28-4 record and is currently ranked 10th in the state.  Thomas Hansen went 2-0 with a great win against Schlarman when he pinned his opponent late in the match.  Thomas???s hard work and great conditioning proved to be the difference in the match.  Mic Palazzolo wrestled a tough match while trying to fight a nagging injury.

Colin Kelley had his best match of the year with a dominating win against Schlarman.  Colin went 2-0 on the night.  Jon Strauser went 2-0 with his first technical fall of his young career.  Luc Bequette, Adam Cochrane, Adam Shoemaker, Jacob Schurter and Alex Verbarg all also won matches on the night.
