I thought that I would start the blogging by thanking all those that came to the Indian Acres informational dinner this evening. I think we are going to have a great year and, most importantly, lots of fun. For those students and parents that did not make the dinner please feel free to contact me at seeton@uiuc.edu or just post a message on this board.
For those that do not know me, my name is Chris Seeton and I have been working with the STM swimmers for the past 4 years (2 years, unofficially and this is my second year officially). I was the head boys and girls coach at Urbana HS for three years from 2001 to 2004, and an Aquachiefs coach from 2001 to 2004. I stopped coaching Chiefs and Urbana because they were drawing too much time from my primary reason for being at the UofI – working on my PhD in Mech. Eng. However, since swimming is in my blood – there was also some arm twisting involved – I decided to volunteer at STM as a swim coach and develop it as a morning only activity.
My goal with STM swimming is to allow these young women the opportunities that the other “in-town” high schools have: quality coaching, weight training, stroke instruction and most importantly – a team to call their own. Make no misconceptions, we will work HARD, but, if you stick with it, you will get a great sense of camaraderie and accomplishment as the season progresses. Since this activity is being developed as “morning only”, one expectation is that each swimmer will also work out at least 4 times a week with one of the fine local year round competitive swim programs in the afternoons and weekends.
Our season will start on Aug. 15th with a swimming workout at Indian Acres from 4-6.
GO SABERS!
